STATUS OF NATIONAL PROJECT ON CATTLE & BUFFALLO

Government of India has approved a sum of Rs. 12.75 crore under National Project on Cattle and Buffalo Breeding for Himachal Pradesh  for a period of 3 years. Out of this approved amount a sum of Rs.2.20crore received in the year 2002-03(3/2003) and Rs.1.00 crore received in the year 2003-04 as First Installation of Total Rs.3.20 Crore and a sum of Rs.270.20 lakh have been received in the year 2004-05 as second installation to Himachal Pradesh Livestock Development Board.

The above mentioned amount have been utilized on the below mentioned components:

Activities under National Project on Cattle and Buffalo Breeding (NPCBB)

Primary aim of the Project is to cover 100% breedable cows and Buffaloes through Artificial Insemination and Natural Service where AI facilities can not be Provided, Cow Bulls and  Buffaloes Bulls will be provided free of cost under this project and the Bulls will be reared bythe private farmers by charging the Natural Service Fee from the farmers.

To Strengthen the Sperm Station by providing/ purchasing the latest/modern equipments to process the high quality aseptic semen straws and purchase of high pedigreed bulls.

All the Static AI Centers are to be converted to Mobile AI Centers by providing 2 /3 Ltrs. LN2 Containers to carry the semen straws to the door step of the farmers as fresh as are available in the Veterinary Institutions to enhance the conception percentage.

To impart training to the in-service Veterinary Pharmacists to up date their skill in artificial Insemination and aseptic measures to be adopted while performing AI to check the repeat breeding problem.

To strengthen the Semen Banks for storage and transportation of the Liquid Nitrogen Gas and Semen Straws.

Achievements made by Livestock Dev.Board (HPLDB).

  1. 364 Existing Artificial Insemination Centers were converted in Mobile A. I .Centers by providing One Ltre. LN2 Container and A.I. Kit for door step A.I. facility.

     
  2. A.I. facility was provided in 19 New Veterinary Institutions of the department.

     
  3. Telephone services were provided in 271 Veterinary Institutions.

     
  4. For processing quality semen straws in Semen Processing Laboratories of the State, 8 Jersey Bulls 11 Buffalo Bulls were purchased from Pune, Jaipur and CHRS Rohtak

     
  5. To provide breeding facilities to the livestock of far-flung areas in district Shimla, Lahaul-Spiti and Solan. 12 high pedigree Jersey Bulls have been provided at Panchyat level for natural service.

     
  6. For improving the quality of semen straws , equipments worth Rs.One Crore have been purchased .

     
  7. To improve distribution of LN2 Gas to various Veterinary Institutions, Six TATA -407 Trucks , Two Mohindra Utility Vans and two big trucks have been purchased for Semen Processing Labs.

     
  8. Bulk Storage Container with capacity to store 500 liters LN2 Gas has been purchased for Semen Lab. Palampur .

     
  9. Twelve Computers were also purchased to improve working of Semen Processing Labs.

     
  10. Efforts are being made to introduce quality control and certification of bulls and services as Sperm Stations and Semen Banks.

     
  11. Grant-in-aid amounting to Rs. 2,70,20,000/- has been received by H.P.Livestock Development Board for implementing 2 nd Phase of National Project on Cattle & Buffaloe Breeding in Himachal Pradesh.

     
  12. Efforts are being made to introduce quality control and certification of bulls and services at Sperm Station and Semen Banks.

Under this Project Government of India has sanction/released below mentioned grants to (SIA) Himachal Pradesh Livestock Development Board.
